Matthew Cresyn
- Quiet, prefers to remain quiet in large groups. Shy.
- Sweet to the point of saccharine.
- Seems to prefer the presence of strong minded women. Takes orders when he can. Likes not having to think about his own actions.
- Has no ambitions of his own. (If there are dreams of being her consort, they're his mother's.)
- Genuinely adores Aes Eshene. They seem very close.
- Painfully insecure. I think Aes Eshene chooses his clothes for him and tells him how to wear his hair.
- Protective.
- Jealous? Seems like the type.
He would make a rather perfect King, there's no denying. Quiet, deferent, timid, gentle, obedient. He's be more than happy to stand behind her, saying little, smiling sweetly, doing anything she wishes. Would she want that? Perhaps.
But she doesn't, is what it seems. She forces all of their interactions. She's uninterested in what he represents, which means there's a chance to show her something she would rather have.
Tey do say that all women look for men who remind them of their fathers. And word is, King Thanes was more a companion than an accessory, charming, talkative, eccentric. And her brother, the one she loves so very much, well, he and I have more than a little in common. Geniality, an brilliant smile, a skill with conversation, and an entirely affected air of modest worthlessness.
Hm.
To sit at her side, I can't simply do what Matthew has done. Seducing her would be simple enough, that it's certainly not the role I prefer to play myself. I could have her bedded within months. But that won't stick. She'll resent me in the same way that she resents Matthew, and I'll be as disposable as I suspect he is.
What I need is to become a confidante, a trusted friend, and, over time, a replacement for her brother. She may not ever love me, and that suits me fine. But perhaps she'll come to see me as a second choice, the next best thing. She can't have him, so why not, since she must marry, accept someone who reminds her of him? Someone she trusts? Someone who makes her smile and laugh and she feels understands her, even if not completely?
Lord Matthew will need to be dealt with, most certainly. He's an obstacle, and Her Majesty may be cornered into marrying him if he isn't neutralized, yet. I even have a few ideas of how I might go about it.
But the time will come for that. First ...

Ah, Your Majesty.
I wanted to say -- I'm so very eager for your coming ball. I was bold enough to peek into a few of the plans, and I'm quite impressed. It's turning out to be quite an event, isn't it?
I enjoy celebrations. Ahah, we don't tend to have things so grand in Cleraine -- we're a quieter, more intimate people than that. I've always stood out a bit, more social and analytical than artistic, and it's nice being here, where I seem to fit in better.
I suppose I mean to say thank you? That does sound silly, but, nevertheless.
