HISTORY ;;

If he were born in Dentoria, or in Hanalan, or in Megam, or even in Korin, Joseph could claim that he was the firstborn son and heir to House Atsir. But unfortunately for Joseph, while he was indeed the firstborn son of House Atsir, he would never seen any of its inheritance. Most of his life has been spent trying and failing to accept that fact.

It was obvious to Lady Laeleena early on that Joseph was a brilliant boy. He took to lessons in essentially everything like a fish to water, and had uncannily clever problem solving skills. This only amplified as he grew older and proved himself a charismatic speaker and skilled diplomat.

It was about this time, in his early teens, when Westa left for Razen and Joseph did nothing of the sort, when he realized he'd hit something of a wall and didn't know where to go from there. He knew that he was nearly as clever as Westa, is not just as much, and he realized for that first time that it meant absolutely nothing. Joseph was not a soldier, and thus couldn't attempt to gain power via the military. Cleraine was a traditional city with no patience for a man who thought to be more than himself, and the opportunities he heard existed in places like Meatha and Razen didn't exist, here, nor did any viable reason to leave. With so many sisters, there was nothing for him to do, and he couldn't simply settle for the secondary role of a man the way that Darz did.

Joseph suspects Laeleena will soon seek to arrange his marriage to the powerful heiress to another House, and that's if he's lucky. More likely, he'll go to a younger daughter, or a wealthy merchant, or whoever else would be serve House Atsir. He realizes this is what he'd good for, and what he's supposed to be, but the idea is so distasteful to him it's nearly painful. He has no intention on being a trophy husband, supporting and giving daughters to a comptetant woman, like he's always seen from his own father.

But, he's come to realize, as time has continued to pass: unless he can find a stroke of absolute brilliance in the very near future ... he doesn't exactly have a choice.

PERSONALITY ;;

Highly intelligent and uncannily clever, Joseph is painfully aware of the life of power and accomplishment that would have awaited him were he a woman. While he'll look anyone in the face and tell them he's perfectly happy offering whatever support he can to his mother and sisters as a man, that would be a lie.

Joseph comes across as being pleasant and accomodating, as agreeable and respectful without being "demure," so to speak, but never making a woman feel as if she is anything less than in charge of a conversation. He's a very articulate conversationalist, and has made a practiced art of pointed suggestions that look far more innocent than they actually are. Joseph is nearly always smiling; a polite, warm, convincing smile that puts those he speaks to at ease. Joseph's public face is likeable, charismatic, and proper.

Joseph's hidden desires are slightly less so. He is an incredibly frustrated man who represses all of his many negative emotions to keep his smiling face firmly fixed. The resulting beast that lurks beneath his mask is jealous, angry, bitter, and prowling impatiently with a vengeance.

He is slightly unhinged. It's fairly likely that something may eventually cause him to snap. While he does care for the female members of his family -- his mother and Westa, especially, who he respects greatly -- he is not above hurting them subtley out of petty revenge, and would likely do worse if he thought he could get away with it. He also has numerous obsessive compulsive tendancies -- used to help him better repress -- and, rarely, has quick, shocking outbursts. He throws himself into his studies of magic as a means of escape, but only finds himself more envelopped by his darkness.

A brilliant man surrounded by competant women in a woman's world, Joseph feels constantly wasted, thwarted, and frustrated. He knows he is capable of greater things than being a good husband, but he has no way to acheive them, and so, his beast within only grows, day by day.

APPEARANCE ;;

Joseph has artfully messy brown hair, and dark eyes. He's average height for an Atsirian man. He dresses finely, but modestly. He tends to appear finely pressed and very well scrubbed.

He's nearly always smiling, and nothing of his inner demons are ever betrayed by his physical appearance.
